Have you ever been in a church service and felt completely unable to get out of your own head and worship? The worship team is jumping around with joy, telling you to “enter in” and you just stand there paralyzed with the thoughts of how you’ve messed up this week…again.
Ever stood there and heard a voice saying things like,
“Who are you to worship God?”
“He saw everything you did and heard everything you said.”
“You are not worthy.”
“You aren’t good enough.”
“If you worship, you’re a fraud.”
I’ve been there. You’ve convinced yourself that everyone around you has it all together and you don’t.
I remember years ago when I was really struggling in an area of my life. I would mess up, feel horrible and then stand in worship frozen like a statue, if I showed up at all. I bought into all the whispers I was hearing, convinced they were true.
The enemy has been around a long time, but he isn’t very inventive. He has been using the same tricks and telling the same lies since the garden. We all know the story of Adam and Eve. God put them in the garden and they had perfect communion with Him. The Word says they were “naked and unashamed.” Nothing was hidden.
Then enter the enemy. He comes along and lies to Eve, making her question if God was really telling her the truth. Sound familiar? In Genesis 3:6-7 it says “Eve was convinced” and she sinned and felt shame. Shame is one of his biggest tactics to try and silence our praise! He knows that if we feel shame, we tend to run and hide from God.
Thank God for His Living Word! It clearly dispels all the lies of the enemy. Let me share with you a few key verses that you can hold onto in those moments.
Hebrews 10:10 (NLT) “For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all.”
Hebrews 10:21-22 (TPT) says, “And since we now have a magnificent High Priest to welcome us into God’s house, we come closer to God and approach him with an open heart, fully convinced that nothing will keep us at a distance from him. For our hearts have been sprinkled with blood to remove impurity and we have been freed from an accusing conscience. Now we are clean, unstained and presentable to God inside and out!“
Do you see it? If you have accepted Jesus, we are welcomed into God’s house and nothing will keep us at a distance from Him. We are free from accusation! Let that last verse wash over you and shut down the lies of the enemy! You are clean, unstained and presentable to God inside and out! It doesn’t matter what you are dealing with, approach Him with an open heart and be fully convinced that nothing will keep you from Him.
