Many things have benefits when you join such as clubs or organizations.  But sometime we forget that the greatest benefits are the benefits of being a child of God.

Psalms 103:2 reminds us of this very thing:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits…”

The New Living Translation puts it this way:

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.”

David, the King of Israel, who wrote this psalm was very much like us.  He wanted and at times needed to be reminded to stop staring at the mountain of problems and stop listening to the whisperings of doubt but allow himself to be refocused his heart and mind on what God had already done for him.

Let’s never allow a “What has God done for me lately?” attitude creep up in our hearts.  No, instead let all that you are praise Him!  Remind yourself, just as David did in this psalm of all the benefits of being in relationship with the God who created you.

The psalm goes on to lay out just how good God has been to us:

“He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things.  My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!” NLT

Have I stumbled in my walk? Maybe but forgiveness is a benefit of membership!

Do I need healing?  Sometimes and healing is a benefit of membership.

Do I need to reminded myself that He has redeemed my life from death?  Yes!

Does it need to be pointed out to me that my life filled with good things?  Now that you mention it, yes!

Lord may we never forget what you’ve done for us!

Read Psalm 103 for yourself.  Be put in remembrance of the benefits of His goodness in your life.  And praise Him with all that you are.
